Tottenham: King in support of ‘beneficial’ Daniel Levy plan at Spurs under one condition
Ex-Tottenham employee Bryan King believes a potential partnership between Spurs and Djurgårdens IF must be done properly and must also be “beneficial” for both clubs.
Spurs recently signed Lucas Bergvall from Djurgårdens IF, with the 18-year-old set to arrive in North London this summer and expected to slot straight into Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans.
Off the back of this transfer business, Djurgårdens’ sporting director Bosse Andersson was a special guest of Daniel Levy as Spurs beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 2 March (via Football London, 3 March).
Andersson’s attendance in North London was part of plans for the two clubs to set up a more formal partnership going forward in terms of exchanging ideas and young players.
Following the signing of Bergvall, King believes this partnership could be extremely positive for both clubs.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “This is something that has been going on in European football for the last 20 years.
“If it is done properly then I have no issue with it. However, it needs to be beneficial for both clubs because Spurs will be the ones taking all the talent and it will be Djurgårdens IF looking to produce the talent.
“The Bergvall transfer was definitely beneficial for both clubs because Spurs signed a talented player and Djurgårdens IF received a lot of money for him. That is a start and if the relationship can continue in that way then it can only be a good thing.
“It gives Spurs a good scouting network in Scandinavian football, especially in Sweden.”
Daniel Levy planning for the long-term future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Bergvall is still just 18 years old and could go on to have a long and successful career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
His signing is an example of the long-term planning that Levy is currently doing in North London, and should Spurs set up a more formal partnership with Djurgårdens IF, signings like Bergvall could become commonplace.
If they can continue to sign top young talent from around Europe, it can benefit the club both on the pitch and off the pitch too.
These players could help Ange Postecoglou’s side produce results, while also saving Levy millions in transfer fees.

If Bergvall is a success in North London, he could be worth big money in the future, and the decision to sign him at the age of 18 for a much-reduced fee will look like a stroke of genius by Levy.
By setting up a partnership with clubs around Europe, it could make these signings easier going forward.
