Tottenham jump on Juventus transfer ‘bandwagon’ as Albert Gudmundsson news emerges
Tottenham have jumped on the Juventus transfer “bandwagon” after a new update emerged surrounding Albert Gudmundsson, according to Alan Hutton.
Ange Postecoglou’s side has been linked with the Icelandic striker after reports suggested Gudmundsson had caught the eye ahead of the transfer window where Spurs are expected to show considerable interest [Football London, 24 March].
Inter Milan and Juventus have also kept an eye on the 26-year-old with an update from Fabrizio Romano (28 March) suggesting Genoa expect serious bids to arrive this summer, with a bid of around £25.5million enough to secure a deal.
While Hutton has urged Spurs to do what they can to sign the player for the right price, he insists that Tottenham shouldn’t rush to complete the transfer just because other teams are interested in the forward.
“I think you need to trust your own process,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“It’s all good and well saying ‘Barcelona are looking at that player, Juventus are looking at that person’ but they could just be jumping on the bandwagon.
“As long as you’ve scouted the players and made your own players and decided yes he can fit into our team because he does this well or does that well then perfect.
“If you’re getting him for the right price then ideal, but I think you always have to trust your own process and not other people’s.”
Will Tottenham beat Inter Milan and Juventus to the signing of Albert Gudmundsson?
With the transfer window still months away, Spurs have been linked with a whole host of different players, particularly in attack where it seems clear that Postecoglou will be keen to strengthen his squad this summer.
While the likes of Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson have all impressed at points this season, Spurs arguably still lack a conventional number nine, especially with Timo Werner’s long term future still undecided.
Gudmundsson has impressed in Serie A this season and would be an excellent addition to Postecoglou’s team, but Spurs may be better off spending money elsewhere if a better deal presents itself in the coming weeks.
Daniel Levy isn’t one to throw money around recklessly so it feels unlikely Tottenham will rush into any deal they could potentially regret.
