Tottenham: Japhet Tanganga to be sold for £3m as contract news emerges amid Millwall loan
Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga will leave the club permanently this summer and could even be released from his contract, according to John Wenham.
Tanganga is currently on loan in the Championship with London-based side Millwall.
He has struggled with the Lions in recent weeks and was dropped to the bench for the club’s 4-0 home loss to Ipswich Town on Wednesday 14 February.
As reported by the Evening Standard (17 January), the 24-year-old is out of contract in North London at the end of this season, although Spurs do have the option to extend the Englishman’s deal by one year until 2025.
Wenham previously revealed that Tanganga must fight for his place under Ange Postecoglou, but now believes there is very little he can do to convince the Australian of his worth after his recent performances.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “If Tanganga doesn’t play between now and the end of the season, I think that Tottenham will simply just release him.
“If he does play, then I think Spurs will take up the option to extend his contract by one year, and then look to sell him for somewhere around the £3million mark.
“Time will tell, but I expect that either way he will be gone in the summer.
“As we can see the rebuild is taking place, and it is important to get these players out the door.
“We suddenly look very strong in defence which means that losing the likes of Tanganga and Joe Rodon would have very little impact on the first-team squad.”
Tottenham should move on from Tanganga
It is hard to see any way back for Tanganga at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
If he is struggling to get game time for Millwall, there is absolutely no chance of him being selected ahead of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven or Radu Dragusin in N17.
As well as those centre-back options, Postecoglou has the likes of Alfie Dorrington and Ashley Phillips beginning to emerge, with Luka Vuskovic set to join the club in 2025.

It leaves very little room for Tanganga at Hotspur Way, and the defender would have to do something quite miraculous between now and the end of the season to force his name into the conversation.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou could make four changes for the visit of Wolves on Saturday 17 February.
