Tottenham: Japhet Tanganga has no future at Spurs with Premier League transfer on the cards

Tottenham loanee Japhet Tanganga will have a few clubs looking at him and could make a move a fellow Premier League club this summer, Paul Robinson has said.

The versatile 24-year-old defender was recalled from a loan at Bundesliga side Augsburg in January after failing to make a single Bundesliga appearance.

However, Tanganga was consequently sent to Championship side Millwall for the remainder of the campaign and has been a mainstay for the Lions as they attempt to avoid relegation.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Robinson thinks Tanganga will likely explore a permanent exit when the transfer window re-opens but is convinced he could play for a top-flight club.

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: “I think the loan move has been good for him because he obviously wasn’t part of the manager’s plans and wasn’t playing football.

“He’s played in a Millwall side that have struggled this season, since Neil Harris has gone back in I think they’ve had three wins out of five now and a draw, they seem to be looking up the table, there’s still the threat of relegation but I think it’s done well for him.

“He’s stood out in a side that’s struggled and it’s been good to see him play football. There was a time at Tottenham where you thought he had a long-term future, he was in and out of the first team, and in and around the squad at least.

“The fact the manager sent him out on loan to play, it doesn’t seem like he’s got a future there. In all honesty, and with no disrespect to Millwall, I think he’s at a better level than that.

“I think he could definitely play in the Premier League, in the lower half of the Premier League, or top half of the Championship.

“But I think the move has worked out for him with it being in London, with him playing football. But I think if he is to leave Spurs at the end of season I think there’ll be a few clubs looking at him, especially the way he’s performed.”

Japhet Tanganga to leave Tottenham permanently this summer?

Much was expected of Tanganga after he broke into the first-team picture at Tottenham during the 2019-20 campaign but his career with Spurs certainly stalled.

The fact he was sent out on loan this season at a time when Spurs were short of defenders told its own story in terms of where Ange Postecoglou’s mind is on the 24-year-old.

Japhet Tanganga will leave Tottenham for free.

Things didn’t work out for him at all in Germany but he has played a lot of football at Millwall to put himself back in the shop window.

Whether that means he’ll be back in the Premier League next season remains to be seen but it is hard to see he has a role at Tottenham moving forward.
