Tottenham: Jaden Philogene ‘ticks all the boxes’ for Spurs after February transfer update

England youth international and Hull City winger Jaden Philogene “ticks all the boxes” for Tottenham during the summer transfer window, according to Alan Hutton.

Reports emerged from TEAMtalk on Monday (26 February) that Spurs are now leading the race to sign the Hull City winger, despite the fact Aston Villa included a buy-back deal in his transfer away from Villa Park last summer.

Villa are able to secure the 22-year-old’s signature for £15million if Liam Rosenier’s side wins promotion this season. Should Hull remain in the Championship, Unai Emery’s side would have to match whatever fee Spurs or any other side pay.

While Hutton thinks Ange Postecoglou should look to sign the “absolutely outstanding” winger this summer, he does admit that Spurs may need players who are ready to have a more immediate impact on the first-team squad.

“He definitely ticks all the boxes,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“I don’t think Villa should have let him go, to be honest with you. Some of his performances have been absolutely outstanding.

“To look to the future and bring in a young, hungry player who works hard and has got the technical ability who can fit into your way of thinking and playing football, I think it’s good moving forward.

“But you also need to add that quality right now. He’s not necessarily one for the future but for upcoming seasons and they will also be looking to see whether they can bring somebody in to impact the squad right now.

“It’s all about getting that balance right.”

Will Tottenham sign Jaden Philogene this summer ahead of Aston Villa?

Postecoglou is already blessed with plenty of attacking depth in his squad in North London, with the likes of Son Heung-min, Timo Werner and Richarlison all impressing in recent weeks. But that doesn’t mean that Philogene wouldn’t be a wise addition.

With eight goals and six assits in 20 league appearances this season, the 22-year-old has set the Championship alight and appears more than ready to be able to make the step up to the Premier League.

But with Lucas Bergvall already set to join Spurs’ ranks this summer after Tottenham pipped Barcelona to his signature, Postecoglou has to ensure that he gets the balance of his squad right ahead of his second season in charge at Hotspur Way.
