Tottenham insider stunned as long-term Spurs deal agreed with ‘unknown quantity’

John Wenham wants Ange Postecoglou to hand Brandon Austin more first-team minutes at Tottenham next season.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose was surprised by the length of the goalkeeper’s new contract in North London.

Tottenham announced via their official website on Tuesday (28 May) that Austin had signed a new five-year deal with the club.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the 25-year-old now needs to be offered a chance to prove himself.

“The fact that this is a five-year contract caught my eye,” Wenham said.

“It came as a surprise to me because Austin has never started a match in English football.

“I hope we see him feature more regularly next season, so we know what we are working with.

“He is an unknown quantity, and we need to see more of him next season.”

Ange Postecoglou can hand first-team minutes to Brandon Austin at Tottenham

Postecoglou has the perfect opportunity to hand Austin more minutes at Tottenham next season.

With the club set to compete in the UEFA Europa League, that tournament could offer Austin the perfect opportunity to make a name for himself.

Fraser Forster isn’t getting any younger, and Postecoglou would be better off seeing what Austin can do.

Once Forster leaves, the club will be without a recognised number two, a spot which Austin could perhaps fill.

In other Tottenham news, the club hold high hopes for one Under-16 player amid a contract offer update.
