Tottenham insider shares ‘worrying’ Micky van de Ven surgery view despite Ange Postecoglou update
Ex-Tottenham employee Bryan King is fearful Micky van de Ven might require surgery in the summer after suffering his second injury of the season against Aston Villa.
Van de Ven was forced off early in the second half and appeared to point toward his hamstring as Spurs thrashed Unai Emery’s side 4-0 at Villa Park on Sunday (10 March).
Ange Postecoglou has since provided an update, revealing that the Dutchman is “unlikely” to feature against Fulham on Saturday (16 March), although the Australian is confident that his defender’s injury is nothing “major” (Sky Sports News on X, 13 March).
While Spurs supporters will be relieved to hear that van de Ven’s latest injury is nothing major, with the centre-back having already missed two months of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in November, King is fearful of the youngster’s long-term propositions.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I think van de Ven is a very fine player, whoever was responsible for bringing him in did an incredible job. He is so quick, and he will be a big miss while he is unavailable.
“I am worried because this is his second injury of the season. Will his hamstring need an operation in the summer? Perhaps he came back too early from his previous injury.
“Issues with the hamstring can be nasty, I have known people with hamstring issues and they can continue for ages, sometimes those people have had surgery to address the issue. It is worrying for a player as young as him.
“He is very quick, and sprinters tend to pick up hamstring issues as well because of those explosive starts they need to make, so perhaps that is contributing to the issue.”
Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou will hope injuries don’t become a habit for Micky van de Ven
Van de Ven will have left the West Midlands feeling incredibly frustrated on Sunday.
Having only recently returned from a long-term injury, this latest setback will come as a real blow to the 22-year-old.
While he will be relieved that he won’t have to spend as long on the sidelines this time around, with Spurs set for a big couple of months as they battle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, he will still be concerned.

Two injuries in the same season is never a good sign, and if it is the Dutchman’s hamstring which has once again caused an issue, he will need to ensure he takes the right steps to prevent this from becoming a recurring problem.
In other Tottenham news, King believes one Spurs player is set for a chance to prove himself.
