Tottenham insider drops new Son Heung-min contract verdict, offer timeline detailed

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes Son Heung-min must be offered a new contract in North London as he continues to deliver “world-class” displays.

Son has a contract with Tottenham until 2025 with the North London side set to activate an option which will extend his stay until 2026.

Since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou the South Korea international has been one of Spurs’ top performers, with the Australian naming the forward club captain at the start of the season.

As Son continues to deliver, Wenham believes Daniel Levy must make sure he keeps the 31-year-old at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond 2026.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “He is a club legend and even beyond his sentimental value in North London, he still delivers world-class performances week in, week out.

“If he hadn’t gone away to the Asian Cup, then he’d be running Erling Haaland pretty close for the Golden Boot.

“He obviously deserves a new contract, but I don’t think Spurs will be in any rush to give him more money or a new signing on bonus because that is just how they operate.

“I imagine they’ll wait until some point next year to offer him a new deal.”

Son Heung-min must be offered a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

There have so far been no signs of Son slowing down in the Premier League.

In fact, he is well on track to exceeding his second-highest goalscoring season in England’s top flight, with just four goals needed to beat his total of 17 which he scored during the 2020/21 season.

If he could find the back of the net another nine times in the 10 games that remain, he could also still match his highest-ever tally of 23 from the 2021/22 season, a total which saw him win the Golden Boot.

Son is a fan favourite who continues to deliver, and Spurs must ensure they make a new deal for the club captain a priority.
