Tottenham Expert: ‘Time is right’ for Ivan Perisic to quit Spurs in January amid developments

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes the “time is right” for Ivan Perisic to move on during the January transfer window, suggesting that the 34-year-old will secure a move from Tottenham to Hajduk Split this month.

Tottenham News exclusively revealed last month (24 December 2023) that Perisic is poised to re-sign for Hajduk Split, where he began his career.

The Croatian has been out of action since September after suffering an ACL injury in non-contact training (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 20 September 2023).

Before this, the winger had seen his role reduced to that of a bit-part player under Ange Postecoglou, as he made five appearances from the bench in the Premier League, registering one assist, while starting just once, in the Carabao Cup penalty-shootout defeat at Fulham, where he also got an assist.

With his contract set to expire this summer, Wenham believes that Perisic will move on from north London during January, which would bring to an end a one-and-a-half-year spell with Spurs.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I still believe Perisic will leave Tottenham and join Hajduk Split during the January transfer window.

“I know he’s injured, but there was some talk that he might be back for March, and Hajduk would expect to be in a title fight around that time, so to have someone of his experience would be a no-brainer.

“It’s a shame because I think Perisic would have been really good under Postecoglou. We saw in the few small snippets when he was available and coming on as a substitute that he was offering something, and grabbing a few assists.

“To lose his leadership and experience within the squad is a huge blow, but I think the time is right to move him on and continue the rebuild.”

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou has been handed a much-needed boost with one 99 per cent injured Spurs ace’s return to the team “imminent.”
