Bryan King claims Kyle Walker-Peters would be a backup to Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro.

The ex-Spurs scout feels that the Southampton star would be a useful squad member if he were to make a return to his former club.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (3 July), Tottenham have been monitoring a move for Walker-Peters.

And King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - has delivered his verdict on a potential transfer.

"Walker-Peters is a good player," King said.

"He will certainly have things to offer Tottenham if he were to return to the club. However, Southampton have now been promoted to the Premier League.

"What kind of money would he cost? Would he be a backup for Porro? I'd say he probably would be.

"It is an interesting link, he hasn't gotten any worse since going to Southampton. He could certainly be a good squad member, that is for sure."

Will Tottenham sign Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton?

This will likely all come down to how much Walker-Peters will cost.

While the romanticism of the player returning to his boyhood club might appeal to supporters and Walker-Peters himself, the transfer needs to make sense.

He enjoyed a positive season with Southampton, but he is unlikely to displace Porro.

Therefore, he would be a backup for Ange Postecoglou, and the club wouldn't want to spend big money on a backup.
