Tottenham ignored chance to sign superstar at Newcastle

Tottenham missed out on the opportunity to sign a player who is now in red-hot form for Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Daniel Levy and ENIC – who recently made a multi-million financial move in North London – are often criticised for their running of the football club, with a particular emphasis on the club’s shortcomings in the transfer market.

Tottenham News recently exclusively revealed that the North London club missed out on a golden opportunity to sign West Ham superstar Mohammed Kudus.

And ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has now revealed that the club chose not to make a move for Alexander Isak before the striker signed for Borussia Dortmund.

“It is the same with Isak – Tottenham could have signed Isak when he was at AIK Fotboll,” King said.

“I spoke to scouts at Spurs who had put dossiers together on Isak. Again, the recruitment staff at Tottenham at the time obviously ignored the possibility that Isak could be a successful player in the Premier League.

“Borussia Dortmund then came in and paid good money for him – around £6million. I was at Aston Villa and sat with people at Tottenham who were watching him, as I was. You might have thought he was a bit lightweight, but he was a good size, very quick and as far as I knew, Tottenham were far more interested than Aston Villa were.”

It is always easier to look at things in hindsight.

However, when a club are so reluctant to spend big money on players, missing out on a player such as Isak when he was worth mere pennies compared to his current value is simply unforgivable.

It is just yet another example of poor recruitment from Spurs, which will be one of many things supporters have complaints about in North London.

And if Levy wants to make it up to supporters, he needs to start demonstrating more ambition in the transfer market.

In other Tottenham News, the club are in hot pursuit of a defender as a £25million-plus bid is made.
