Tottenham have Radu Dragusin problem as ‘bizarre’ decision threatens to disrupt plan

Tottenham’s Under-21s will not play until January which could be a problem for Radu Dragusin.

Dragusin has been sidelined at Tottenham for months after suffering an ACL injury last season.

He is one of several players who have been unavailable due to long-term injuries, including James Maddison, whose absence at Spurs has been felt.

The good news for Tottenham fans is that Dragusin is on the mend. The bad news is that it could take a little longer than expected.

Radu Dragusin unable to play with the Under-21s

It recently became common knowledge that Dragusin has featured in a couple of Under-21 games to return to peak fitness.

As seen in Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, the Lilywhites are in desperate need of good rotational options on the bench.

However, speaking exclusively to Tottenham NewsTottenham expert and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham believes Spurs could end up scrambling to organise a few friendlies so that Dragusin can return to his best form

“There are no Under-21 games now until January. What a complete mess of a fixture schedule,” Wenham.

“We sometimes we’ve got three games in a week, play some sort of European Under-21 game, either a league game on a Friday night and then the following Monday. And now there are none until January. I’ve got no understanding of that.

“I just find it absolutely bizarre because it’s exactly what we need right now. We need Dragusin playing games, and the opportunity isn’t there. So I presume Tottenham will line up friendlies each week against clubs that don’t normally play and that kind of thing.”

Radu Dragusin’s recovery could take longer

Having Dragusin train and play with the Under-21s was genius on Spurs’ part.

The level is simple enough that the defender can play with minimal fears of relapse, but competitive enough that it speeds up his recovery process.

Now that this option is unavailable, Tottenham could look to play Dragusin in Premier League games.

This would see him receive game time, but limited minutes which could result in him taking longer to return to his best form.

Either way, the Lilywhites will be an improved team when he returns.
