Tottenham handed major boost as ‘fantastic news’ emerges – Robinson

Son Heung-min’s contract extension was never in doubt after Tottenham officially confirmed the news on Tuesday, Paul Robinson has said.

Spurs announced the decision to exercise the option to keep their South Korean star at Hotspur Way until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with plenty of speculation surrounding his future recently.

While it was reported at one point that the Lilywhites had chosen against extending his contract [TBR Football], Ange Postecoglou’s side have now been handed a “great boost” by the update.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I don’t think it was ever in doubt. There won’t be many Spurs fans who wake up and are surprised by the news.

“The relationship he’s got with the club, the supporters, and the club feel about him, he’s one of those players that you can’t imagine playing for any other Premier League team. It’s like Mo Salah and Liverpool.

“There was never going to be any doubt about him extending his contract. It’s fantastic news but it comes as no surprise – it’s a great boost. I just hope it’s not the only signing the club make in January.”

Son Heung-min contract extension confirmed in Tottenham update

While the 32-year-old has not been at his very best this season, it is still huge news that he will remain in North London for at least one more season with so many rumours about his future.

The Lilywhites were devastated when losing Harry Kane last summer, and with Son being one of the other longest-serving players at the club, it would have been a crushing blow to lose him at the end of the season.

In what has been a substandard campaign by the South Korean’s standards, he has still notched seven goals and six assists in all competitions, leading Postecoglou’s side by numbers.
