Tottenham goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman injury update issued by Doctor

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman appears to have suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The 25-year-old, in mid October, stated that it was the most significant injury of his career and that he broke his ankle and tore the ligaments at the same time.

The injury expert claims that it generally takes over three months to recover from this but it’s been longer, which may mean something unplanned taking place behind the scenes.

Discussing the state of play with Whiteman exclusively with Tottenham News, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Considering the length of his time out, my educated guess is that he had an unstable high ankle sprain injury, which involves ligament damage and a fracture, enough that requires surgery to stabilise.

These typically take over three months to return from.

He’s probably suffered a setback, which is why he continues to be ruled out.

Ange Postecoglou

Whiteman’s injury was picked up in pre-season and he’s yet to make a first-team appearance under Ange Postecoglou.

The 25-year-old needed to be taken off a stretcher which initially suggested that he was set to spend months on the sidelines.

Thus far, neither the club nor the player have issued an update on when he’s expected to return to first-team football.

The Englishman made his senior debut for Spurs in the UEFA Europa League against Ludogorets in November 2020.

In other Tottenham Hotspur news, a senior first-team player is set to be out for the rest of 2023 with a Grade 3 hamstring rupture, according to an exclusive by an injury expert.
