Tottenham fans will be ‘excited’ by Jamie Donley as he wins trust of Ange Postecoglou
We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Alan Hutton is delighted to see Jamie Donley getting a shot in the first team at Tottenham.
Donley, 18, has made his first two senior appearances this month, coming off the bench in both the draw with Manchester City and the 4-1 hammering of Newcastle.
The England Under-19 international has been in sensational form for Spurs’ youth sides this season. In Premier League 2, the forward has four goals and eight assists in eight appearances for the Under-21s which he’s also grabbed two goals and three assists in three EFL Trophy outings against EFL men’s teams.

Donley is clearly a talented young forward and Hutton believes the teenager has already won over first-team manager Ange Postecoglou with the Aussie trusting in the Northern Ireland-born sensation to play in the Premier League amid Spurs’ injury crisis.
“Tottenham fans will be excited with any young player coming through the academy – that’s what you want to see,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“They need a pathway through to the first team, you want to see these guys come in and flourish.
“He’s obviously doing well in the academy, therefore he’s being given those opportunities on the pitch.
“I think a lot does come down to the injuries but fair play to the youngster. Coming through and taking that on his shoulders at such a young age, he’s ready for it and the manager believes in him.”

Donley has reportedly attracted attention from EFL clubs ahead of the January transfer window with TeamTalk reporting on 14 November that League One sides Charlton and Leyton Orient are among those who could sign the youngster on loan.
However, if Spurs’ injury issues persist and Donley continues to impress Postecoglou, it’s likely that the manager will want to keep hold of him to stay in the senior side.
In other Tottenham news, Dele Alli could be used as a way for Spurs to sign this “fantastic” Premier League defender.
