Tottenham: Fans not excited for ‘perfect’ Ange Postecoglou January transfer window signing of Timo Werner

Paul Robinson doesn’t think supporters will be “overly excited” by the arrival of Timo Werner at Tottenham but has tipped him to be “perfect” for Ange Postecoglou’s system.
The former Chelsea forward arrived on a loan-to-buy deal from RB Leipzig this month and made his debut in the 2-2 at Manchester United on 14 January.
Sky Sports pundit Robinson isn’t confident that the German will make a major contribution in front of goal at Spurs, but believes he fits the profile of player who the manager needs to implement his playing style.
And he has tipped the 27-year-old’s addition to benefit his new teammates more than anything thanks to his pressing and his application.
“I’m not sure about a big impact but I just think he’s a low-risk signing,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.
“If he was coming to your club you wouldn’t be overly excited about this prolific goalscorer coming to your side.
“But the way that Postecoglou plays, the way that they press high, the attitude and application of Werner, his pace and his fitness levels through a game, the way that he presses and the way that he plays, we saw it at Old Trafford.
“Yeah he’s not going to come to Tottenham and score 20 goals between now and the end of the season, as much as we’d love him to.
“But he will have a role in that system in the way that they play. They’ve got 11 players [out], whether injured or unavailable through international duties.
“So put him into that squad with the way that they play, with Brennan Johnson on one side and Werner on the other side.
“Son [Heung-min] is missing, [Yves] Bissouma’s missing, [Dejan] Kulusevski, those type of players, Werner fits into that system perfect.
“I don’t think he’s going to go there and be a prolific goalscorer, but I think he’ll be a great addition potentially to the players around him and the system that Postecoglou wants to play him in.”
