Tottenham fan-led protests to intensify after recent developments

Tottenham fans are planning to protest against the club’s ownership at upcoming matches, and recent developments could intensify those demonstrations.

Daniel Levy isn’t the most popular man in North London, with fans often critical of the way the club has been run by ENIC and the Spurs chairman.

Cristian Romero himself also appeared to aim a dig at Levy recently and is expected to have gotten himself into trouble behind the scenes as a result.

With frustration building among supporters, protests have been planned [via Give Me Sport, 17 December] ahead of Premier League fixtures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Liverpool [22 December] and Wolves [29 December].

And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes these protests in North London could be bigger than ever.

“We’ve seen three fan-led groups dissociate from this club in recent weeks,” Wenham said.

“They all cited that they don’t feel as though the club is doing things in the best interest of those groups, which included Return of the Shelf, THFC Flags and Spurs Song Sheets. All of these groups have said that they can no longer work alongside the club, which is very interesting.

“It demonstrates that a lot of fans are now getting frustrated with the ownership. As a result, I think these planned upcoming protests will be far more well attended than they have been in the past.”

It would appear as though frustration among supporters is slowly reaching a boiling point.

During the 5-0 Premier League win against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday [15 December], during which one player broke a club record, the away fans could be heard directing mocking chants toward Levy, who was in attendance at the match.

While Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be focused on the football, it seems as though fans might have other things on their mind during upcoming matches.

This could no doubt create a hostile environment which might negatively impact the atmosphere and work against Spurs. However, if it leads to change from Levy and ENIC, fans will no doubt feel as though this is a sacrifice worth making.
