Tottenham: Fabio Paratici pulling the strings as Albert Gudmundsson transfer news emerges

John Wenham believes Fabio Paratici’s work has been key in Tottenham luring players from the Serie A to North London, as news emerges in their transfer pursuit of Albert Gudmundsson.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has discussed the possibility of Spurs luring the Genoa star to the club.

Spurs are reportedly showing a “considerable interest” in Gudmundsson, (via Football London, 24 March), who is also a target for Inter Milan and Juventus.

Gudmundsson could cost somewhere in the region of £21million and £25.5million (via Fabrizio Romano, 28 March), with Inter Live reporting (4 April) that Spurs could look to win the race for the 26-year-old by offering Genoa a fee plus Djed Spece, who is already on loan with the Serie A outfit.

Paratici, who continues to play a part at Tottenham, is pushing hard for this deal and Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has praised the Italian’s work.

“Gudmundsson has played with Radu Dragusin, and they share the same agent, which could help Tottenham.

“Serie A seems to be a top market for Tottenham, and I think a lot of that is down to the work of Paratici, who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of that league.

“Gudmundsson is a little older than the profile of player we tend to sign, and for a fee somewhere near the £25million mark, it sounds about right.

“I’m sure he is someone that we’re looking at.”

Could Tottenham sign Albert Gudmundsson to play under Ange Postecoglou?

Bringing players to Tottenham from Italy’s top flight hasn’t hurt the club in the past.

Cristian Romero has become a top defender in North London, while Rodrigo Bentancur continues to show his worth and Destiny Udogie also looks like a top talent for the future.

Throw in the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Dragusin, and this is clearly a league where Spurs have seen a lot of smart recruitment take place.

Paratici’s connections to the Itallian market have no doubt helped Tottenham, and if they can look to capitalise on that once again by signing Gudmundsson, it could be viewed as a shrewd bit of business by Daniel Levy.

In other Tottenham news, a “bizarre” verdict has emerged after Daniel Levy saw some of his plans in North London approved.
