Tottenham Expert: Spurs supporters should be ‘really excited’ as Under-21s and Under-18s continue to shine
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham believes Tottenham supporters should feel “really excited” about the progress of the club’s academy at this moment in time.
Spurs’ Under-21s and Under-18s are both sitting top of their respective divisions at the halfway point of the season.
Several of Spurs’ young talents have secured loan moves this month, while talent from within the academy is beginning to emerge and feature in Ange Postecoglou’s matchday squads.
Dane Scarlett was recently recalled from his loan spell at Championship side Preston North End (BBC Sport, 27 December), which Wenham believes will make the Under-21s even stronger as opportunities begin to open up for other players.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Scarlett has come back, and I have had a few people telling me that the Under-21s will become weaker after losing a couple of players, but Scarlett is far too good for that level.
“With him and Jamie Donley up top together, Tottenham will win that league easily. They will have absolutely no issues doing that at all.
“We’ve made such a good start, 10 wins out of 10, it is now just about cementing our position.
“Alfie Dorrington will be sticking around, Luca Gunter is a great goalkeeper as well, so I’m confident that we will continue to progress at that level.

“Some Under-18 players will move up, and then Spurs have some really talented Under-16 players, four or five of them who get called up for the England age groups.
“They’ll be ready to come into the 18s to replace the players moving up to the 21s, so for Tottenham, it just seems like a really good pathway, and the academy is something we can all be really excited about at the moment.”
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy could be set to spend millions on a player Spurs previously had the chance to sign for a much smaller fee.
