Tottenham Expert: Spurs must do ‘everything in their power’ to move Ryan Sessegnon on

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes that Tottenham must look to move Ryan Sessegnon on from the club after yet another setback for the Englishman.

Sessegnon has endured a miserable time in North London since he joined Tottenham from Fulham in a £25million deal almost five years ago (BBC Sport, 8 August 2019)

Injuries have plagued his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the former England Under-21 international managing to make just 57 appearances for Spurs in four and a half seasons with the club.

After spending almost a year on the sidelines, the 23-year-old recently returned to action, coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup third-round victory over Burnley (5 January).

However, he is once again sidelined with an injury issue, and Wenham believes it is now time to cut ties with the player.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Sessegnon came on as a substitute against Burnley, and despite being on the pitch for a short amount of time he is somehow now injured yet again.

“Tottenham need to be doing everything in their power to move him on.

“I know there was some interest in him during the summer, so Spurs should now look to revisit those potential options.

“What would be ideal is if they could find a loan move for him in the final days of the January transfer window so that he can get a good run of games under his belt and potentially seek a permanent move in the summer.

“Overall, progress needs to be made there.”
