Tottenham Expert: Spurs must capitalise on ‘favourable fixtures’ after Everton draw
Tottenham expert John Wenham believes the club must take advantage of their “favourable fixtures” over the coming months to solidify their place in the Premier League top four.
Spurs failed to hold on to a 2-1 lead at Goodison Park on Saturday 3 February as Jarrad Branthwaite scored a 94th-minute equaliser for Everton, with certain players failing to make an impact in the 2-2 draw.
Although Tottenham remain in the top five of the Premier League, by dropping points on Merseyside they have provided an opportunity for those teams below them in the Premier League to cut the gap on the North London side, and Wenham believes they must now put a run together.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “We need to make sure we’re staying in and around that top five area of the Premier League, to ensure we’re in the position to make a push for UEFA Champions League football.
“West Ham have dropped points recently, drawing with Sheffield United away and Bournemouth at home, and I think that is big for us.
“It just keeps a nice gap between us and sixth place, and we need to build on that gap throughout February and March, a time where we have some favourable fixtures.
“That way, we can really establish ourselves away from the other teams battling below us, such as West Ham, Newcastle United, Manchester United and even Chelsea.”
Tottenham opportunity
Ange Postecoglou’s side will be targeting maximum points from their next three games, with the return of one first-team star set to be a big help.
They are set to embark on a run of three consecutive home matches as they prepare to host Brighton, Wolves and Crystal Palace as their postponed clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which was originally set to take place between the games with Wolves and Palce, is yet to be rearranged.

By claiming nine points out of nine, it would leave Spurs in a promising position when they take on top-four rivals Aston Villa at Villa Park on 9 March.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs Women are set to be without one of their key players throughout February.
