Tottenham expert shares ‘next Christian Eriksen’ admission after what Lucas Bergvall did
Tottenham may have signed the “next Christian Eriksen” in Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall, according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King.
Spurs completed the signing of Bergvall during the January transfer window, with the 18-year-old set to join up with the club in July (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 2 February).
Bergvall has already made his Sweden debut and has demonstrated his incredible potential across 40-plus senior appearances for his current club, Djurgården.
He recently featured in Djurgården’s 5-0 away win against Nordic United in the Svenska Cupen (25 February), scoring twice and setting up two further goals.
Off the back of this performance, King has shared his excitement about the youngster’s imminent arrival at Hotspur Way.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “If he continues to progress like he already has been doing, he could be an exciting young player.
“He could be the next Christian Eriksen for Tottenham. I knew of Eriksen before he went to Ajax, and Bergvall looks very similar in a lot of the things he does on the pitch.
“Bergvall is a good passer and he can finish from distance, which are both things that Eriksen could do.
“Eriksen was a big asset to Tottenham during his time in North London. If Bergvall has half as much success as Eriksen did, it could be quite exciting.”
Can Lucas Bergvall follow in Christian Eriksen’s footsteps at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
Eriksen’s boots will be rather big ones to fill for Bergvall in North London.
The Denmark international was a huge success at Spurs following his arrival from Ajax and was part of arguably Spurs’ most successful team in the Premier League era.
Eriksen scored 69 goals and provided 90 assists for Tottenham across his 305 appearances for the club, flourishing under Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs reached their first-ever UEFA Champions League final during the 2018/19 season.

Bergvall is still only 18 years old, and a title such as the “next Eriksen” might come with a lot of pressure, but the midfielder’s displays throughout his short career so far certainly demonstrate that he can handle that pressure.
Ange Postecoglou’s task will now be to get the best out of Bergvall, just as Pochettino did with Eriksen.
