Tottenham expert reveals ‘surprising’ Everton verdict ahead of Premier League clash

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes despite Everton’s “surprising’ upturn in form Spurs will see them off when the two sides meet on Saturday 23 December.

Sean Dyche’s side arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend having won their past four league matches without conceding a goal.

The Toffees were recently deducted ten points by the Premier League for breaching financial rules (The Guardian, 17 November), a punishment which they have appealed, yet their positive form still sees them sitting 16th, seven points clear of the bottom three.

Ahead of their visit to north London, Wenham has spoken highly of the Merseyside club, admitting their form is a shock, but remains confident of victory.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Everton are really surprising people at the moment. I think they’ve used this ten-point deduction in the Premier League to their advantage and the players seem to have responded well to it.

“If they’re successful in their appeal, they’ve already now gathered a load of other points, and if they were to be given the ten points back, it would see them shoot up the table, they’re absolutely flying.

“Dyche is getting the best out of some of his players who have really underperformed in the past, such as Abdoulaye Doucoure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil, and James Tarkowski.

“However, Tottenham are at home and are a better side than Everton, so I fully expect them to win that game and build some momentum moving forward.”

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have set their sights on signing a Champions League-winning midfielder in January.
