Tottenham expert questions ‘strange’ loan decision amid Luka Vuskovic struggles

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes the decision to send Luka Vuskovic on loan to Polish side Radomiak Radom ahead of his arrival at Tottenham was a “strange” one.

Spurs signed the talented 17-year-old defender from Hajduk Split for £12million (via The Independent, 25 September 2023).

FIFA’s rules currently prevent British clubs from signing overseas players who are under the age of 18, and as a result, Vuskovic cannot join Spurs until 2025.

Ahead of his arrival at Hotspur Way, the Croatian has been sent on loan to Radomiak Radom to continue his development (via The Athletic, 31 January), and King has questioned the decision to send the youngster to Poland.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “He has made a bad start to his loan. In the first two matches, his side lost 6-0 and 4-0, and he featured in both of those matches, starting once.

“Their third match was 0-0, so it looks like he might be starting to find his feet after what was a very shaky start for the young man.

“As far as I understand he couldn’t play for Hajduk Split anymore after the transfer to Spurs was official, so he has had to go and play in another country on loan until he can join Tottenham when he turns 18.

“They chose to send him to Poland, which for me was a strange decision. I thought they could have found him a better league to play in ahead of his arrival in the Premier League.

“However he is very young, and as long as he is playing that is the main thing.”

Luka Vuskovic will learn ahead of his move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Conceding 10 goals across your first two matches for your new club is certainly far from ideal. However, the context around those matches is important to consider.

When Radomiak Radom were beaten 6-0 on Vuskovic’s debut from the bench, they had been reduced to 10 men in the second minute and saw another player sent off in the 86th minute. During the 4-0 defeat, which Vuskovic started, they were reduced to 10 men in the 31st minute.

Vuskoic then started the club’s 0-0 draw, and he will be able to take great confidence from this result going forward as he helped his side keep a clean sheet.

Luka Vuskovic will arrive at Tottenham in 2025.

Spurs supporters must remember that Vuskovic is still only 17 years old and as a result, he is bound to make plenty of mistakes, especially in a new league.

All that matters at this moment in time is that he is getting valuable experience in first-team football under his belt.

By the time he arrives in the Premier League, Vuskovic will have plenty of experience in top-flight European football, which will make him a very exciting prospect for Ange Postecoglou.
