Tottenham Expert piles praise on ‘positive impact’ U21s star Jamie Donley is having at the club

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Jamie Donley’s rise at Tottenham will have a “positive impact” on the club’s current crop of academy talent.

Donley has been in fine form for Spurs’ Under-21s this season, scoring four times and assisting nine goals in Premier League 2.

His contributions have helped Tottenham to the top of the table after their impressive 100 per cent record in the competition during the current campaign, winning all nine of their games so far.

Donley was recently rewarded with his first-team debut for the club and has already made three Premier League appearances this season, which Wenham hopes will act as a source of inspiration for his teammates.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “With Donley, it was always widely known that it was a matter of when he was going to make his debut for Tottenham, not if.

“He has been very highly regarded by all the coaches down the years at the club. He has been there since the age of eight and he has always been the main standout player in every age group he’s played with, often playing above his age as well.

“I think this was a deserved reward after his form for the Under-21s, and it perhaps could have come even sooner.

“I am pleased for him, and I hope that he continues to get more minutes throughout the season.

“It provides a good pathway for the other Under-21 players as well. He will go back and spread the message about what it’s like to play in the first team and that can only have a positive impact on all the other players.”

In other Tottenham news, one of Donley’s Under-21 teammates could be next in line for his first team debut after his recent red-hot form.
