Tottenham expert names ‘absolute priority’ transfer for January 1

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly should be an “absolute priority” for Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Spurs find themselves in desperate need of defensive and midfield reinforcements with the January transfer window just around the corner.

Ange Postecoglou’s squad has been ravished by injuries and suspensions in recent weeks which leaves the Australian short of options ahead of the new year.

As a result, Wenham is hopeful that the club are already working on some deals behind the scenes ahead of the window opening on 1 January.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “We should have already laid down the foundations for January over the past few weeks.

“Ideally, we need someone to come through the door on 1 January, so he is ready to make his debut on 5 January against Burnley, there’s no better way to introduce someone into the squad.

“I hope things are going on in the background.

“I noticed that Tosin Adarabioyo has recently regained his place in the Fulham team, he only has six months left on his deal, he is a homegrown player so that’s an option.

“Then of course there is Lloyd Kelly, someone who is constantly linked with Spurs. He is someone who can play left back, he has plenty of Premier League experience and has captained Bournemouth, and most importantly he is still only 24 years old.

“He would tick a lot of boxes, and just like Adarabioyo he only has six months left on his deal. It is a relatively straightforward deal to get done and I hope they’ve got intermediaries and agents working on that as we speak. It should be an absolute priority.”
