Tottenham expert makes ‘remarkable’ claim as Fabrizio Romano shares latest on Radu Dragusin and Eric Dier at Spurs

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham have made “remarkable” progress in central defence with deals for Radu Dragusin and Eric Dier reportedly nearing completion.

As per Fabrizio Romano via his official X page (11 January), all documents have been signed between Tottenham and Genoa for the transfer of 21-year-old centre-back Radu Dragusin.

The Romania international has completed his medical with just a formal announcement left.

Only a few hours later, Romano revealed (11 January) that Eric Dier is now on the verge of sealing a transfer to Bayern Munich, with the 29-year-old already in Germany to complete his medical tests. Romano tweeted that personal terms are agreed with Daniel Levy green-lighting the deal overnight. He also added in his catchphrase, “here we go”.

It marks an extraordinary shift in the club’s defensive options within just 24 hours, and Wenham has detailed his delight at the progress the club has made.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Tottenham now looked to have tied down the centre-back position for more or less the next decade.

“Cristian Romero is only 25, and he’s the oldest of the main centre-backs at the club. Ben Davies has proved to be a hugely reliable option this season, and I expect him to be the fourth choice for the rest of the campaign.

“Ashley Phillips, Alfie Dorrington, and Luka Vuskovic are younger, exciting options who are yet to make their impact at Spurs.

“All of a sudden we are incredibly strong in an area where we were very weak last season. Our options were Clement Lenglet, Eric Dier, who is now on the way to Bayern Munich, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga.

“Tottenham have made remarkable progress on the rebuild of the weakest part of their squad, in one window and one week of the next window.

“Which club in the Premier League have got three better central defenders on paper than World Cup-winner Romero, 22-year-old Micky van de Ven and Dragusin?

In other Tottenham news, Wenham has raved about a multi-million agreement which Spurs have announced in recent days.
