Tottenham expert hails ‘outstanding’ Junai Byfield after what he did to Arsenal wonderkid
John Wenham has piled praise on Tottenham academy ace Junai Byfield after his recent performance at Under-18s level.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has described the Under-16s defender as an “outstanding” talent following his recent displays.
Byfield has been starting for Spurs’ Under-18s over the past month and impressed during the 3-2 win over Arsenal’s Under-18s (4 May).
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was particularly impressed by the way he dealt with one Arsenal youngster.
“Byfield is another Under-16s player who has been playing up a couple of years with the Under-18s at the moment,” Wenham said,
“He is an outstanding talent who will continue to play above his age level next season.
“I would describe him as a powerful defender, and I was impressed by the way he dealt well with Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi recently.
“Obi has been scoring for fun this season but only managed to get on the scoresheet from the penalty spot against us, and he was really roughed up by Byfield.”

Obi has 28 goals in his last nine Under-18 Premier League appearances for Arsenal.
It is a ridiculous record, but against Spurs and Byfield, he could only find the back of the net via the penalty spot.
That goes some way in emphasising the level of talent Byfield possesses.

And with the likes of Alfie Dorrington and Ashley Phillips coming through, it appears that Spurs’ centre-back options could be sorted for the next decade.
