Tottenham expert drops ‘Massive’ Champions League verdict after what happened v Luton

Ex-Tottenham employee Bryan King believes Son Heung-min’s late winner for Tottenham against Luton Town could prove to be “massive” in the race for UEFA Champions League football.

Ange Postecoglou’s side returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against the Hatters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 30 March.

Having gone behind so early in the match, with Tahith Chong putting the visitors ahead after just two minutes, Spurs were eventually able to turn the contest around.

Brennan Johnson forced Issa Kabore to turn the ball into his own net shortly after half-time before Son stepped up to score the winner late on.

And King believes that goal could prove key come the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “There aren’t many games left now, and if they can keep picking up points and grinding out results then they will return to the Champions League, which would be positive for Tottenham.

“To get back to the Champions League after being out of Europe for a year, that would be huge.

“It is so important to be in that competition because of the amount of money it generates and the opportunity it gives you to attract top players to the club.

“These are the games which should be Spurs’ bread and butter in the Champions League race, the games against the likes of Luton.

“Players need to stay motivated for these games, and scoring a late winner as they did on Saturday is massive.”

Ange Postecoglou will be confident of guiding Tottenham back to the Champions League

Many supporters might have expected a more comfortable afternoon against Rob Edwards’ side, but once again Spurs left it late in North London.

Despite not being at their best, Tottenham got across the line, which is all that matters at this stage of the season.

Scoring so late on will give the players a huge lift ahead of their trip to West Ham on Tuesday (2 April).
