Tottenham Expert: Conor Gallagher transfer still on the cards amid Fabrizio Romano update on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Tottenham could yet sign Conor Gallagher before the January transfer window shuts after Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future.
It has been widely reported that Spurs hold an interest in Chelsea’s Gallagher, with time now running out for Daniel Levy to complete a move for the midfielder.
However, after Fabrizio Romano reported via his official X platform (29 January) that Hojbjerg is set to stay put in North London this month, despite suggestions he could leave the club before February, it appeared that a move for Gallagher would be more difficult.
Nonetheless, as reported via X by The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg (30 January), Tottenham are still considering making a move for the 23-year-old this week before the transfer window shuts on 1 February.
King is not surprised by this news and believes that Hojbjerg’s situation at Tottenham should have no impact on the club’s pursuit of Gallagher.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “Hojbjerg is under contract, if he doesn’t want to go then he doesn’t want to go. If whatever has been offered to him doesn’t suit him, then he doesn’t need to leave.
“He is an international player, and Spurs have had a lot of injuries this season, so I think it is beneficial for Tottenham to keep the squad together. He is a good player to have around, he has plenty of experience.
“The big question is will Gallagher join the club? I don’t think Hojbjerg staying reduces the chances of that, because I would have thought Gallagher would be playing and Hojbjerg would go back to his position on the bench.

“If Gallagher does join Spurs, that would be the big one for the window because there has been very little business elsewhere.”
In other Tottenham news, Brentford will have to contend with “two phenomenal losses” when they travel to North London on Wednesday.
