Tottenham Expert calls for patience after Brennan Johnson disappoints v Burnley
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham has urged supporters to give Brennan Johnson time to “settle in” and believes the Wales international can become a “real goal threat for Tottenham.”
Johnson has had a mixed start to life at Tottenham following a £47.5million switch from his boyhood club Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day (Sky Sports News, 2 September).
He has so far made 15 appearances for the north London club, scoring one goal and providing four assists in that time.

The 22-year-old struggled in Spurs’ 1-0 FA Cup win against Burnley on Friday 5 January, failing to provide an accurate cross from the four he attempted and completing just 73 per cent of his passes, although one of those was key (Sofascore).
Nonetheless, Wenham has called for Spurs fans to be patient and offer the forward, who he sees big potential within, time to adapt.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I believe Johnson is starting to find some form.
“He hasn’t scored since the goal at Wolves, but he is getting into really good positions on the pitch, and he has been incredibly unlucky at times.
“I think it’s only a matter of time before he starts scoring and becomes a real goal threat for Tottenham because he is a talented player. His confidence just needs to grow, and it will as he settles into the side.

“However, people need to give him that time. This new reactionary style of online supporters, ranting in front of their television sets at home is not the way to go, you need to give people time to settle in.
“It was a big move, his whole life had been Nottingham Forest, and he has now come to a bigger club where there are more eyes on him. I think we are seeing improvements already and I was delighted to see him grab a couple of assists for Richarlison in recent weeks.”
