Tottenham exit ‘on the cards’ for Bryan Gil after new Fabrizio Romano transfer update emerges

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will “try to get rid of” Bryan Gil during the summer transfer window, according to Alan Hutton.

The 23-year-old has had a disappointing season under the Australian in North London, only managing to start two Premier League games all term and failing to score or assist in a further nine substitute appearances.

While Gil was linked with a January loan move no such move ever materialised and now his future is already the subject of speculation again with Fabrizio Romano (21 May) reporting that the Spanish midfielder has already attracted interest.

Although Hutton admits that pre-season may offer Gil a final chance to force his way into Spurs’ plans, he believes that a summer move could already be “on the cards” as Postecoglou looks to put his stamp on his squad.

“You can always say that there’s an opportunity,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“That’s why I loved pre-season. It was always an opportunity, even when you hadn’t played so much in the previous campaign, to go and show the manager what you’re capable of.

“You would turn up to pre-season ready to go, you’re up there in terms of your running stats and then you can hit the ground running and go from there.

“Of course, he’s got the ability. Do I think that he is going to play regularly? No, I don’t. Technically he is very gifted and the Spanish league and those sorts of places suit his technical ability and the way that he likes to play.

“From that, I feel there will be a move on the cards moving forward. Again, Ange will be looking to get rid of one or two so that he can bring his own players in.”

Will Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou sell Bryan Gil in the summer transfer window?

When Gil arrived in North London, he was viewed as an extremely exciting addition at Spurs but for whatever reason the Spanish midfielder has never managed to hit the heights expected of him at Tottenham.

He isn’t the only player who has struggled in this manner as both Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon have failed to perform consistently in a Spurs shirt, despite arriving for big money transfer fees.

While a strong pre-season could be enough to force Postecoglou into reintegrating the 23-year-old back into his squad next year, it feels as though the Lilywhites boss may have already made up his mind over Gil.

As Hutton suggested, his style is much more suited to the Spanish league and if there is interest from clubs within La Liga, it could be best for all parties if Gil was allowed to depart this summer.

Postecoglou has already suggested that he would be keen to put his own stamp on the team when the window opens and the sale of Gil could help the Lilywhites fund one or two new additions.
