Tottenham exit hailed as Ivan Perisic leaves during January transfer window amid serious injury
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Paul Robinson says it is “fantastic” if Ivan Perisic is likely to recover from serious injury to play this season even though it won’t now be for Tottenham.
The club confirmed on 14 January that a loan deal had been reached with Hajduk Split that would see the Croatian leave for his youth club across the remainder of his Spurs contract, despite having announced on 20 September he was expected to be sidelined for the entire campaign after tearing his ACL.
Robinson admits that details of a player’s injury situation behind the scenes is “beyond our pay grade” on the outside looking in.
But he is pleased for the 34-year-old if a return to action is on the cards before the end of the season, having suffered such a serious injury at the back end of his career.
Perisic made a total of 50 appearances at Tottenham after joining from Inter two summers ago, scoring once and registering 14 assists.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News he said: “We’re not privy to the information in his medical records, so to comment on a player’s fitness and whether he’s available to play or not is beyond our pay grade.
“The reports at Tottenham were that he was injured and wasn’t able to play.
“If he’s managed to recover from his injury to be able to play then it’s fantastic news for him at his age to go to his hometown club.”
In other Tottenham news, a “fantastic” move for a Premier League star Spurs like has been “absolutely” backed.
