Tottenham Exclusive: New money-grabbing exercise as bizarre Spurs story emerges
Tottenham appear to have found yet another creative way to generate some cash in North London.
At times, Daniel Levy is perhaps the least popular man among the Spurs faithful.
Supporters have made it clear that they are keen to see the back of the 62-year-old, with a former-Spurs employee joining in on the act by urging Levy to step down as chairman.
However, what cannot be denied is Levy’s brilliance when it comes to generating a big payday in North London, largely thanks to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And it looks as though the club could be set for another revenue boost, this time without the need to use their 62,000-seater home.

Tottenham request to be referred to as ‘Spurs’ or ‘Tottenham Hotspur’
As reported by the Daily Mail (26 February, page 63), Spurs have made a formal request to broadcasters to only be referred to as ‘Spurs’ or ‘Tottenham Hotspur’, rather than ‘Tottenham’.
Ian Hebert was less than impressed by this request, writing, “How can these club geniuses not see how terrible this farce looks?
“I thought brand management was all about optics – the image you create for your product. Tottenham’s geniuses neglect to see that retiring off ‘Tottenham’ has a terrible look.”
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes there is a financial incentive behind this recent move.
“They must have got a financial expert to do a study behind-the-scenes,” Wenham said.
“He must have concluded that the club can make more money by being referred to as Spurs or Tottenham Hotspur. However, I don’t know the ins and outs.
“I do find it strange because you have the San Antonio Spurs. Therefore, surely if you type in Spurs on Google you get as much about the basketball team as you do Tottenham.
“However, it could also be to do with the station. They tried to change the name of ‘White Hart Lane’ to ‘Tottenham Station’ previously. Therefore, this could be linked to that. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them push to rebrand the station the ‘Tottenham Hotspur Station’, that could be back on the cards.”

Levy continues to find new revenue streams at Tottenham
While it is a rather strange request, if referring to Tottenham as ‘Spurs’ or ‘Tottenham Hotspur’ somehow boosts the club’s finances, then it is understandable why this request has been made.
However, considering the position Ange Postecoglou’s side find themselves in, stories like this won’t be of particular interest to supporters at the moment.
Premier League 2024/25 | Position | Points |
Tottenham | 13th | 33 |
Manchester United | 14th | 33 |
West Ham | 15th | 33 |
Everton | 16th | 32 |
All it will do is increase frustration levels in North London with the club’s focus once again seemingly on finance, rather than their worrying league position or lack of process on the pitch this year.
