Tottenham Exclusive: Andoni Iraola compensation emerges after sack update

Spurs would have to pay a significant compensation amount to appoint Andoni Iraola, sources have told Tottenham News.

The Cherries boss has emerged as a contender for the Spurs job if Ange Postecoglou is sacked after a run of just one win in ten Premier League matches (Football London).

However, Bournemouth Echo journalist Alex Smith insists he would not be tempted by the opportunity in North London, with European football on the cards at the Vitality Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Smith said: “If Spurs were to come in for him, I don’t think he or the club would entertain any approaches until the summer at the earliest, and even then, I’m not sure Iraola would leave before the end of his contract.

“I think it would cost a lot for Spurs to tempt him away from Cherries and the club would be in a good position to ask for a lot in compensation, too.

“Particularly if Iraola steers Bournemouth to a higher finish than Spurs and a European spot, I think he and the club would not consider a move to another side.”

Could Iraola’s impressive rise take him to Tottenham?

The 42-year-old manager has enjoyed a rapid rise to stardom since starting his coaching career with AEK Larnaca in Cyprus during the 2018/19 season.

He then moved to the Spanish second tier to manage Mirandes in the 2019/20 campaign before a three-year stint at Rayo Vallecano.

During his time on the outskirts of the Spanish capital with the Madrid-based club, he secured promotion to La Liga through the playoffs, before two 12th-placed finishes.

That earned him a move to the Premier League with the Cherries, where he finished 12th in his first season on English soil.

The Basque manager has the south coast side in seventh place in the Premier League this season, 13 points above the Lilywhites.
