Tottenham defender Ashley Phillips set for ‘fantastic’ Sheffield United deal amid transfer update
John Wenham feels that Tottenham defender Ashley Phillips could benefit from another season on loan away from North London.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes that it is important for the centre-back to continue playing regularly next season.
It comes after Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon, ReluctantNicko (via Yorkshire Evening Post, 15 April) that Sheffield United are targeting a loan move for Phillips.
And although the Blades are seemingly set to be relegated from the Premier League, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that a move to Bramall Lane could still benefit the 18-year-old.
“There is talk about Phillips heading on loan to Sheffield United, which would be fantastic,” Wenham said.
“Make no mistake about it, Sheffield United are a bigger club than Plymouth Argyle, even if it looks like they will be playing in the Championship next season.
“I think Phillips does need a full season in the Championship and 46 games under his belt to continue his development, and I think that the Blades could be the right place for him.”

Phillips has proven while on loan with Plymouth Argyle that he has all the qualities to become a top Premier League centre-back.
The youngster has impressed in the Championship, and Ange Postecoglou will certainly like what he has seen.
It is a near-guarantee that Sheffield United will be playing their football in the Championship next season, although they are likely to be competing much higher up the table than Plymouth have been this season.
The Pilgrims are still fighting to stay in the division, and Phillips might therefore benefit from another Championship loan, but one where he is competing at the top end of the division.
