Tottenham deal to sign Wolves star Pedro Neto depends on Timo Werner amid £60m transfer news

Tottenham making a move for Wolves forward Pedro Neto is dependent on what happens with Timo Werner, according to John Wenham.

Neto has been in fantastic form for Wolves this season, scoring twice and providing eight assists in just 15 Premier League appearances.

It is this form which has attracted the interest of some of England’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal all interested in the forward who Gary O’Neil’s side value at £60million (Standard Sport, 16 February).

Spurs are well-stocked out wide after signing Werner on a six-month loan from RB Leipzig, with an option to make the German’s transfer permanent for a fee of £15.5million.

As a result, Wenham believes Spurs’ summer business hinges entirely on Werner’s future in North London.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Neto is a very talented player.

“Whether or not we sign him depends on what happens with Werner.

“It completely depends on how Werner performs between now and the end of the season, because if he does well then £15.5million is very cheap for someone with that level of experience.

“There is an argument that Neto is a better player, and the club should just put the Werner fee towards him, but it is clear that Ange Postecoglou likes Werner.

“You can see that from the number of games he’s starting, but obviously his finishing has left a lot to be desired.”

Tottenham must sign Neto instead of Werner

Werner hasn’t done much since his arrival to suggest that the club should make his stay permanent.

He does have two assists in his four appearances in a Spurs shirt, but he has also been very wasteful with his chances and inconsistent. There is certainly quality there, but he has shown nothing like the levels Neto has shown this season.

Timo Werner has rejoined Tottenham on loan.

Neto will cost considerably more, but he is also just 23 years old and could develop into a top player in N17.

For his potential and quality alone, he is worth the increased fee and if Spurs were to go out and sign him ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool, it would be a real statement of intent.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou could make four changes for the visit of Wolves on Saturday 17 February.
