Tottenham: Daniel Levy to push for Morten Hjumland transfer despite Arsenal development
Tottenham are unlikely to worry about Morten Hjulmand’s links with Arsenal as they consider making a move for the Danis international this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
Spurs have reportedly sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old ahead of a potential move at the end of the season, but Hjumland has connections with their North London rivals and was a boyhood fan of the Gunners and in particular, Patrick Vieira [Record, 2 March].
The Danish midfielder has also been pictured with the Arsenal crest tattooed across his shoulder, a fact which has seen some supporters suggesting Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy should drop their transfer interest.
While Hutton doesn’t believe Hjumland’s allegiance would put the brakes on any potential transfer, he has admitted that the 24-year-old would have to get his tattoo covered up if he became a part of Postecoglou’s team.
“I don’t think it’s ideal,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“I can’t sit here and kid on about this, it’s not great. Obviously, clubs look at the bigger picture, is he going to fit into our team, or is he going to take us to the next level? They don’t necessarily look at the likes of tattoos and who they support.
“At the end of the day, you can go and get it covered up. It is what it is, these things happen but it’s not ideal. It’s your work at the end of the day and you’re trying to do your best for the team that you’re employed by and that will never change.
“I know Darren Bent really well and he never really spoke about it. He didn’t let everyone know, ‘By the way I’m an Arsenal fan.’ You don’t speak about it at all because your sole focus is on what you’re doing week to week game to game.
“The difference with him is I can imagine the banter if you sign for Tottenham and you’ve got an Arsenal tattoo on you, it’s not great. Personally, you’d probably have to get it covered up and move on from that situation.”
Will Tottenham sign Arsenal fan Morten Hjulmand in the summer transfer window?
As Hutton suggested there have been plenty of players who have links with Spurs’ rivals in the past that have gone on to impress in a white shirt, whether than be Bent or even Harry Kane who was part of the Gunners’ set-up.

If Hjulmand would genuinely improve Postecoglou’s midfield, which may undergo a rather drastic change in the summer, Tottenham would be making a mistake ignoring the 24-year-old purely because of a tattoo.
This deal could be one to keep an eye on between now and the end of the season as Spurs seem quick to make a number of additions to their squad this summer and several players could be set to head the other way.
In other Tottenham news, Hutton believes Postecoglou is set to make a big decision surrounding Lucas Bergvall after a “moment of brilliance” from the winger
