Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy slammed after ‘incredible’ behind-the-scenes Spurs decision

Daniel Levy’s decision to sign off on a season ticket increase at Tottenham has been described as “not ideal” by Alan Hutton.

Tottenham confirmed via their official website on Wednesday 6 March as the price of a season ticket at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is going to rise by six per cent in a decision that was has been criticised by supporters.

Indeed, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust described themselves as “hugely disappointed” with the cheapest price for a season ticket increasing from £807 to £856 (BBC Sport, 7 March).

Ex-Spurs defender Hutton – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – says he understands that football is a business but says he is not in favour of prices rises at a time when supporters are dealing with increased costs in their everyday lives.

“It’s London prices isn’t it? I’ve been down there myself, everything’s expensive,” he said.

“But I know season ticket holders down there and they say how much it costs – it’s incredible. The stadium’s amazing, the facilities that are there, they play a good brand of football, hopefully they’ll be playing Champions League football as well.

“But I think when it comes to ticket prices with everything that’s going on in the world right now it must be very hard, especially if you’re travelling, it’s obviously not ideal.

“You’d like to see them being frozen and staying at a particular price even for a number of years so people know exactly what’s going on.

“I’m not a fan of raising prices but that’s the business side of football and they’re going to try and get as much out of it as possible.”

Daniel Levy gets it wrong on Tottenham season ticket price hike

Everyone understands that everything is more expensive in London so, to an extent, the fact that prices are high at Tottenham is kind of a given.

But to increase prices by six per cent at a time when people are navigating other price hikes and when the club are doing so well commercially just feels like an unnecessary cash grab.

You would like to think there would be some discussion with supporters and perhaps a rethink on this one but the chances of that happening feel pretty slim.

It is absolutely understandable that supporters feel massively let down by this decision, they are – after all – the heartbeat of the football club.

In other Tottenham news, Levy has been praised for a different decision he made.
