Tottenham: Brennan Johnson had his ‘Best Game’ in a Spurs shirt against Aston Villa

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes Brennan Johnson had his “best game” in a Tottenham shirt against Aston Villa.

Spurs put themselves in the driving seat in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification with a 4-0 victory at Villa Park on Sunday (10 March).

It was a big game which required Ange Postecoglou’s side to step up, and they certainly did just that, with all 11 players justifying the Australian’s decision to hand them a start in what was his biggest game in charge of the club so far.

Johnson in particular stood out, smashing home Spurs’ second after he was played in by Son Heung-min, and Wenham was full of praise for the Wales international.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “I was particularly impressed by Johnson, I thought it was his best game for Tottenham.

“Even in the first half when we were struggling to create, he must have beaten his fullback four times with his trickery and quick feet.

“Sometimes the final ball wasn’t perfect, but just seeing him get the better of his fullback over and over again was really refreshing to see.

“He’s now got four goals and six assists for the season, and it has been a really good introduction to life at Spurs for him.

“I know some people have questioned him when he has started, but in my opinion, he has actually been really good.”

Spurs supporters must continue to show patience with Brennan Johnson at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Johnson has come under fire from Spurs supporters on plenty of occasions this season, perhaps unfairly.

It is the Welshman’s first season in North London after leaving his boyhood club in a big-money switch.

There is a lot of pressure on the 22-year-old and he has taken some time to adapt, although he has still been involved in 10 Premier League goals this season.

He appears to be picking up form at the right time, and if he can continue on this trajectory, there is no doubt that he could become a top player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, fans will just need to be a bit more patient.
