Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou made the ‘correct decision’ v Brighton – Spurs Expert

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou’s triple substitution proved to be the key moment against Brighton, according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King.

After late heartbreak on Merseyside, as Jarrad Branthwaite netted a 94th-minute equaliser for Everton in a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park on Saturday 3 February, Spurs made the perfect response with last-minute joy of their own.

It was Brennan Johnson who stepped off the bench to score the winner in the 96th minute as Spurs beat Brighton 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 February.

It could prove to be a big three points in the race for European football this season, and King believes that Postecoglou’s in-game management won the hosts the game.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I thought the substitutions which were made straight after Spurs scored, I thought they were going to have a bigger effect on the game than they did actually.

“Nonetheless, it was good to see Son back and I thought he got a great ovation from the fans inside the stadium when he came on.

“For him to set up the winning goal for the other substitute Johnson, it demonstrated that Postecoglou made the correct decision in the end, even if his plan didn’t work as well as he might have liked.

Tottenham back to full strength

Introducing Son, Johnson and Yves Bissouma just past the hour mark represents probably the strongest substitutions Postecoglou has been able to make since he arrived in North London.

For the first time in over three months, the Australian has a full complement of players at his disposal, and the January additions of Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner add to what suddenly looks like a very strong Spurs squad.

Postecoglou came under fire for the substitutions he made against Everton last week, as he introduced Bryan Gil and Oliver Skipp in the latter stages of the match.

Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham players must take advantage of Marc Guehi’s absence.

However, he got it spot on this time around, as Spurs will now look to build some momentum with back-to-back home games against Wolves and Crystal Palace on the horizon.

In other Tottenham news, King believes that one big-name player has no future at the club.
