Tottenham: BBC pundit delight for Spurs to beat Arsenal to Wolves star Pedro Neto transfer

Paul Robinson would be “absolutely delighted” if Tottenham were able to sign Pedro Neto from Wolves this summer.

The Portuguese forward played a key role in his side’s 2-1 victory over Spurs on 17 February and the pundit believes he is a “brilliant player”, but is certain there will be strong competition for his services at the end of the season.

Tottenham, key rivals Arsenal, and Premier League leaders Liverpool are all interested, with Wolves reportedly looking for a club-record £60million fee for the 23-year-old [Evening Standard, 16 February].

But Robinson is convinced that he would be worth the investment as he raved about the exit-linked Molineux star.

The BBC Sport pundit exclusively told Tottenham News: “I would be absolutely delighted if they could get him. He will be in a top-five team next year. He’s a brilliant player.

“I’ve watched him first-hand numerous times this season. He plays on the right-hand side with his left foot, he drifts inside. Defensive capabilities are not necessarily his strong point but he can play anywhere behind [the striker], as a number 10.

“You basically want to give him a free role in a similar way that [James] Maddison does. You can play him on the left though or give him a little bit of discipline on the right hand side.

“He’s an out ball for Wolves every time. Everything the Wolves do well goes through him. He’s getting back fully fit.

“I would be amazed if there weren’t others in the race for him in the summer but I would be absolutely delighted if he ended up holding a Tottenham shirt up and signing for Spurs.”

Tottenham want Wolves ace Pedro Neto but face Liverpool and Arsenal transfer competition

Often the fastest way to convince a club to go all out to sign you is to put on a show against them, so if Spurs are going to be spurred into winning this transfer race then Neto’s counterattacking burst down the right to set up Joao Gomes’ second last week will have done it.

The former Lazio youngster already has 130 games of experience in the Premiere League despite a pair of serious injuries and looks to be making a step up to the next level in quality this season.

According to talkSPORT (14 February) Wolves are prepared to let him go for big money in order to fund other business while avoiding FFP complications, but Spurs may have to qualify for the Champions League to have a chance.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has been hailed over Spurs freedom amid widespread fear in the wake of the “worst” transfer situation ever seen.
