Tottenham: BBC pundit blown away by ‘incredible’ £32,600-a-week update on Destiny Udogie

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Alan Hutton has waxed lyrical about Destiny Udogie after Tottenham got the left-back tied down to a new long-term contract earlier this week.

It was announced on 12 December that Udogie, 21, has put pen to paper on a new deal that runs until 2030.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday morning (11 December) that Udogie will be getting a pay rise in his new contract and Italian news outlet CalcioMercato followed that up on 12 December by saying the new deal is worth £1.7million annually, which equates to around £32,600-per-week. As the contract is six-and-a-half years long, that means the overall agreement is worth at least £11million.

Udogie scored his first Tottenham goal on Sunday (10 December) in the 4-1 win over Newcastle with the Italy international also putting in a man-of-the-match-worthy shift.

Hutton is blown away by how good he’s been since returning from a loan spell at Udinese in the summer and admits that there’s a huge ceiling for the Italian’s potential if he keeps on progressing the way he has been.

“Udogie’s worked out as a brilliant signing,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

I know he was signed and went back out on loan but he’s back now and he’s ready.

He’s matured, he’s physical, he’s strong, he ticks all the boxes and literally, he can play in that midfield role comfortably. He’s only 21 – that’s incredible.

I think his original contract was five years and his start to the season has been quite incredible.

Tottenham have struggled with the left-back position for a while so for him to come in, knowing he’s tied down until 2030, if he continues to progress the way he’s going, who knows where he’d go.

He looks like he’s got everything you need for a modern-day full-back.”

In other Tottenham news, Dele Alli could be used as a way for Spurs to sign this “fantastic” Premier League defender.
