Tottenham backed to terminate Dane Scarlett deal after manager sacked

Tottenham gem Dane Scarlett has shown signs of inconsistency on loan at Oxford United.

After a slow start to life in Oxford, the striker began to find the back of the net in the Championship, scoring four goals in seven matches.

However, Scarlett is now without a goal in his last eight appearances and was an unused substitute in the 3-2 Championship win over Cardiff City at the Kassam Stadium on Boxing Day (26 December), before once again being benched for the 2-0 Championship win over Plymouth Argyle at the Kassam Stadium on Sunday 29 December.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spurs could review Scarlett’s loan in January, just as they are expected to do with another young player out on loan.

“Strikers have hot and cold spells,” Wenham said.

“However, I think the bigger issue is that Oxford United have changed their manager, and I don’t know what the relationship is between Dane and the new boss.

“Therefore, we will have to wait and see on that one. This is another situation where Tottenham could look to review the situation in January and potentially recall Scarlett.”

Tottenham to recall Dane Scarlett from Oxford United in January?

Gary Rowett took over from Des Buckingham in mid-December as Oxford United struggled in the Championship.

Since Rowett has arrived at the club, Scarlett has started on the bench for all three of his matches in charge of Oxford United.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Spurs were considering bringing the 21-year-old, who has demonstrated his potential after a “stunning” moment this season, back to North London.

However, should they do that, another loan will need to be arranged, as there is little chance of Scarlett getting into the Spurs team ahead of Dominic Solanke.

And if they are forced to recall Scarlett, Spurs will hope to get it right with the next loan decision.
