Tottenham backed to terminate Ashley Phillips loan amid injury news
Paul Robinson has discussed the possibility of Ashley Phillips being recalled from his loan spell to fix the current Tottenham injury “crisis”.
The 19-year-old Welshman has started 14 of Stoke City’s 25 league matches so far this season, becoming an important part of the squad, with Spurs considering ending his loan early last month [The Standard].
Ange Postecoglou has the option to recall the young defender from his loan, and with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and fellow Welshman Ben Davies all sidelined, it could be a potential quick fix in North London.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Knowing the player before he went to Stoke, he’s certainly an option to be recalled to address the current injury crisis, but he was sent out on loan to gain experience.
“If he’s going to be recalled from his loan, does he play instead of who is now? If he does, absolutely. If he doesn’t, go and get someone better.
“Where Tottenham are now, if they are to bring in a new defender, they need to bring in someone who is better than who is available right now. Currently, they’ve got a few square pegs in round holes.”
Tottenham to recall Ashley Phillips from Stoke City loan?
Postecoglou has been left with no other option but to partner Radu Dragusin with Archie Gray in the centre of defence, a combination that has been chaotic at Hotspur Way.

Spurs have conceded nine goals in their last four matches in all competitions, seeing them slip into the second half of the Premier League table, though they did advance in the EFL Cup.
It is extremely unclear, however, whether Daniel Levy is willing to dip into his pockets for a new defender now the January transfer window has opened, much to the frustration of the fanbase.
