Tottenham backed to sign new goalkeeper after what happened to Fraser Forster

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King has suggested that a backup goalkeeper should be a priority in North London this summer after Fraser Forster’s recent injury.

Ange Postecoglou recently confirmed that Forster would be out for “a couple of months” after fracturing his foot in training ahead of Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Wolves on 17 February (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 16 February).

Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively revealed to Tottenham News (6 March) that Spurs’ second-choice goalkeeper was unlikely to return to first-team training until mid-April.

With this injury in mind, King believes it might be time for Spurs to dip into the transfer market.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “Postecoglou might need another goalkeeper as cover for Guglielmo Vicario.

“Forster is not young anymore and he is now getting over a major injury.

“The older you get, the harder it becomes to get over those types of injuries and Spurs might therefore need to think about signing a quality backup option between the sticks.”

Do Tottenham need to sign a goalkeeper as cover for Guglielmo Vicario?

Forster certainly isn’t getting any younger, having recently turned 36 this month.

The Englishman will enter the final year of his contract in North London this summer and is unlikely to be offered a new deal considering his age.

While Spurs have some impressive young goalkeepers within their ranks, they will certainly not be ready for a major first-team role within the next year or two, and the club might want to consider signing someone for the short-term.

A goalkeeper in his early thirties, willing to sign a short-term deal and play second fiddle to Vicario would be ideal, but that will be easier said than done for Tottenham.

In other Tottenham news, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are favourites to sign one Spurs star should he quit the club.
