Tottenham backed to sign Lloyd Kelly over Tosin Adarabioyo amid ‘surprising’ £20m claim

John Wenham would prefer Tottenham sign Lloyd Kelly rather than Tosin Adarabioyo amid a recent transfer update.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that Bournemouth’s Kelly “ticks more boxes” than Fulham’s Adarabioyo.

It comes after a report via Football London (11 April) which revealed that Spurs are expected to step up their interest in Adarabioyo, who is keen on the switch to North London, while they also maintain an interest in Kelly, who they saw a £20million bid knocked back for last summer.

Both players are out of contract with their current sides in June and Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that the choice is clear.

“We will need four centre-backs next season, make no mistake about it,” Wenham said.

“But Adarabioyo is right-footed, and I would much rather the club signed a left-footed centre-back, for example, Kelly.

“For whatever reason Adarabioyo seems to be the preferred target, maybe Kelly has better offers from other clubs which Tottenham aren’t willing to match, but that seems surprising considering we were willing to pay £20million for him previously.

“I’m struggling to see why Adarabioyo is the preferred option when Kelly clearly ticks more boxes.”

Should Tottenham sign Tosin Adarabioyo or Lloyd Kelly to play under Ange Postecoglou?

Spurs will need a fourth centre-back next season.

While they currently have adequate cover for Cristian Romero in the form of Radu Dragusin, they do not have a suitable replacement for Micky van de Ven.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will likely be playing European football next season in one form or another, and a bigger squad will therefore be needed to compete.

Archie Gray could feature frequently under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham this season

The choice between Kelly and Adarabioyo should come down to Postecoglou, and whoever he selects, Daniel Levy must do everything within his power to fulfil that wish.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou is to start one rarely-seen player against Arsenal after an injury update.
