Tottenham backed to sign Jonathan David amid Dominic Solanke development

Ange Postecoglou could use some cover in the forward areas at Tottenham.

As reported by GiveMeSport (15 January), Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Lille striker Jonathan David – who is expected to pass a medical in North London should a deal be agreed.

It comes after Dominic Solanke’s recent injury setback, with the striker ruled out for several weeks.

As a result, Richarlison is currently the club’s only recognised senior striker, although there is no guarantee the Brazillian will stay fit as he has struggled with injuries this season.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – would like to see David brought to North London.

“That could be a good signing,” Wenham said.

“He is an improvement on Richarlison – who will probably only get injured again anyway – and would be good cover while Solanke is out.

“Therefore, David would absolutely improve the squad, and he is versatile too. He has Champions League experience, he is always one of the top scorers in France and just seems to score a load of goals every season.”

Tottenham to sign Lille striker Jonathan David?

David has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in 18 Ligue 1 matches this season.

In total, the 25-year-old has scored 101 goals and provided 25 assists in just 213 games for Lille. Therefore, it is perhaps surprising that he has yet to secure a move to a bigger club.

However, with the Canadian out of contract this season, a transfer could now be on the cards, and with Postecoglou under serious pressure in North London – with ex-Spurs scout Bryan King revealing when the Spurs boss could be sacked – the Australian could certainly use a player of David’s quality.

Meanwhile, this could be a transfer which even tempts Daniel Levy, as David’s contractual situation means any transfer fee is unlikely to be extravagant.
