Tottenham backed to seal ‘£60m Jhon Duran swoop’ amid Solanke development

Martin Allen can see Tottenham signing Jhon Duran as striker cover while Dominic Solanke is out injured.

The England international is set to be out “for a few weeks” in North London after suffering a knee injury in training before the defeat against Everton [Alasdair Gold, 19 January].

Since this issue, Spurs have won one and lost one, falling to a 2-1 defeat against Leicester City last time out which could see Ange Postecoglou demand reinforcements before the end of January.

Former Foxes manager Allen believes the Lilywhites could move for the Aston Villa forward Duran but could struggle at this stage of the winter window.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Allen said: “Will they want to get someone else in for £50-60m?

Maybe Duran for £60m but then when Solanke comes back so it’ll be interesting to see if Tottenham want to do that.

It’s a fine line bringing people in at this stage and getting them out of other clubs because they won’t want to lose their best players in January.

This window has proved to be a difficult one to get players in.

Tottenham could sign Jhon Duran to cover for Dominic Solanke

There is no doubt that the Colombia international would be a superb signing in North London after what has been a true breakout season at Villa Park.

This has seen the 21-year-old score 12 goals in just 29 appearances in all competitions, despite featuring mainly as a substitute under Unai Emery.

With that being said, Duran may be tempted by a switch to the capital as direct competition for Solanke moving forward.

Given the similarities between the two, it would be a move that makes sense for Postecoglou but is yet to be seen whether Daniel Levy would pay the fee that Villa would demand.
