Tottenham announce punishment for fans after ‘dangerous’ development

Tottenham have issued indefinite bans to supporters whose recent actions created a “dangerous” situation for other fans.

It has been a miserable season for Tottenham in the Premier League. However, Ange Postecoglou and his players still have a chance to make history by winning the UEFA Europa League.

Spurs beat Bodø/Glimt 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May) in the first leg of the semi-final, with the atmosphere electric in North London.

A change is believed to have been made behind the scenes at Tottenham to improve the atmosphere around the club as the Lilywhites look to end their 17-year trophy drought.

However, some supporters won’t be involved in generating that positive atmosphere after recent events.

Tottenham supporters banned after reselling away tickets

During Spurs’ visit to Anfield on Sunday (27 April), where Liverpool clinched the Premier League title by thrashing Postecoglou’s side 5-1, several home fans were ejected or refused entry to the away end after they were found in possession of tickets issued to Tottenham supporters.

Tottenham have since announced that they have identified the supporters whose tickets were sold on to Liverpool fans and issued indefinite club bans, which will be reviewed after three years.

And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – supports this decision, and believes the actions of these supporters created a “dangerous” situation for other fans.

“This was completely the right decision by the club,” Wenham said.

“It is very difficult for supporters to get away tickets. Therefore, if people are profiting by selling them on to supporters of other teams, it creates a dangerous situation for other fans.

“Those taking their children to the football will be sitting around fans of the other team, which isn’t a nice experience. Home and away supporters are deliberately separated to prevent those situations from arising.

“As a result, if Tottenham fans were looking to make a quick profit, I’m delighted the club have come down on them, and they’ll now potentially be missing out on the chance to watch us play in a UEFA Europa League final.”

However, the situation has fortunately been resolved, and those responsible have been rightly punished.

Therefore, now it is about the rest of the supporters getting behind the Lilywhites ahead of the second leg of the Europa League semi-final.
